Commonly known as the Fed Funds Rate, the Federal Funds Rate is a short-term rate objective or “Target Rate” of the Federal Reserve Board. Also known as the Intended Federal Funds Rate, it can be expressed as a specific rate or as a range of rates. The “Actual Rate” is known as the Effective Federal Funds Rate, Fed Funds Rate (Current target rate 1.75-2.00) What it means: The interest rate at which banks and other depository institutions lend money to each other, usually on an overnight basis.
