The Fragile States Index (FSI; formerly the Failed States Index) is an annual report published by the United States think tank the Fund for Peace and the American magazine Foreign Policy from 2005 to 2018, then by The New Humanitarian since 2019. This is a list of countries by order of appearance in the Fragile States Index (formerly the Failed States Index) of the United States think tank Fund for Peace. A fragile state has several attributes. Iraq ended 2017 by declaring victory over the so-called Islamic State, a militant group that had controlled large swaths of its territory since 2014. Though the war-ravaged country still has a long road to stability, the Fragile State Index has found that Iraq is the second most-improved country in this year’s index.
