Nationalization oil industry

Nationalization oil industry

On March 15, the Majlis voted to nationalize the oil industry. In April the shah yielded to Majlis pressure and demonstrations in the streets by naming Mosaddeq prime minister. Oil production came to a virtual standstill as British technicians left the country, and Britain imposed a worldwide embargo on the purchase of Iranian oil. The energy industry comprises 9% of the American economy. Throw in every associated cost of auto manufacturing, public transit, and sustainable agriculture that the Sanders plan specifically Nationalization refers to when a government takes control of a company or industry, which generally occurs without compensation for the loss of the net worth of seized assets and potential income. This eliminated a tremendous amount of experience from Venezuela's oil industry. Most of Venezuela's proved oil reserves consists of extra-heavy crude oil in the Orinoco Belt. The Orinoco contains an estimated 1.2 trillion barrels of oil resource.

The nationalization of the Iranian oil industry (Persian: ملی شدن صنعت نفت ‎) resulted from a movement in the Iranian parliament (Majlis) to seize control of Iran's oil industry, which had been run by private companies, largely controlled by foreign interests. The legislation was passed on March 15, 1951, and was verified by the Majlis on March 17, 1951.

However, unlike cases in other countries from Iran to Venezuela, the point of nationalizing the U.S. oil industry is quite the opposite of its historical goal abroad. Rather than removing fossil fuel exploitation from the private sector so all can share in the profits reaped from the natural resources we all “own,” we need to nationalize our fossil fuel industries with the eventual goal of shutting them down entirely. The nationalization of the Iraq Petroleum Company in June 1972 and the enormous increase in income from the sale of crude oil after the ‘oil crisis’ of 1973 greatly expanded Baghdad’s financial maneuvering room. Much of that income was applied to the expansion and improvement of the infrastructure Nationalizing energy production would drastically reduce the USA’s carbon footprint, if the catastrophic Venezuelan experience of nationalizing their oil industry is any guide. Of course once a socialist has successfully expropriated the owners of a major industry, there is nothing to stop them targeting other sectors of the economy. Fuel-czar Harry Garfield openly considered nationalization of oil based on the precedents of the coal mining, railroad, telephone, and telegraph industries. A Federal Trade Commission report in 1918 warned of nationalization if the problem was not corrected. In the same year at their inaugural meeting, the Oil, Chemical, and Atomic Workers International Union called for oil nationalization.

On 18th March, 1938, Cardenas nationalized the oil industry. The nationalization was a sign of a dramatic affirmation of the economic independence of Mexico from leading oil companies and their governments, a move widely supported by majority of Mexicans. Cardenas’ motives for nationalization of Mexican oil are shrouded in mystery.
