Drilling rigs can be massive structures housing equipment used to drill water wells, oil wells, or natural gas extraction An oil drilling platform off the coast of Santa Barbara, CA - 6 December 2011. Offshore drilling is a mechanical process where a wellbore is drilled below the seabed. Offshore oil and gas production is more challenging than land-based An oil rig is any kind of apparatus constructed for oil drilling. Kinds of oil rig include: Drilling rig "Oil and Gas Well Drilling and Servicing eTool". Retrieved from An oil platform, offshore platform, or offshore drilling rig is a large structure with facilities for well drilling to explore, extract, store, and process petroleum and natural gas In the oil and gas industries, coiled tubing refers to a very long metal pipe, normally 1 to 3.25 in (25 to 83 mm) in diameter which is supplied spooled on a large reel. It is used for interventions in oil and gas wells and sometimes as production A typical drilling operation of deep oil or gas wells may require up to 8 or more trips of the drill string to replace a dull rotary bit for one well. Tripping out of the hole Forty-four Gulf of Mexico exploratory wells discovered 11 oil and natural gas fields by the end of 1949. During World War II (1939–1945) – control of oil supply from
Maersk Drilling supports global oil and gas production by providing high- efficiency drilling services to oil companies around the world. Coiled Tubing Drilling (CTD) has been used effectively for over 20 years in the oil industry and Typical applications include depleted wells, unconventional gas shale, underground coal gasification and coal bed methane. Underbalanced Vantage Drilling International is an offshore drilling contractor that operates and manages a fleet of modern, high specification drilling rigs on a worldwide basis.
Slim Hole Drilling is a drilling technique which is used to develop a slim hole well. A Slim hole well is a type of gas or oil well whose borehole size is significantly smaller than the usual borehole size. It is generally less than 6 inches in diameter and 4 ¾ inches or less deep. It is drilled by E&P organizations. A slim hole well sets a perfect correlation between the well cost and the volume of rock drilled out. Drill Cuttings – A type of waste made of soil, rock fragments, and pulverized material that must be removed from a borehole. Cuttings may also include a small amount of fluid that results from the drilling process. Dry Gas – As opposed to Wet Gas, Dry Gas is natural gas composed primarily of methane, Controlling the oil and gas drilling process is about managing the pressure and fluids from the reservoir with the hydrostatic pressure in the drilling mud. From Wikipedia’s well drilling entry: Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) is defined by the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) as “an adaptive drilling process used to more precisely control the annular pressure profile throughout the wellbore.” The objectives of MPD are “to ascertain the downhole pressure George Bissell and Edwin L. Drake made the first successful use of a drilling rig on a commercial well drilled especially to produce oil in Pennsylvania. They drilled to 69 feet.
