Would not recommend investing in silver. Price has barely moved over the last 50 years. Started at $8 and has only doubled to $16. The s&p 500 has sextupled in that same time frame going from 500 to almost 3000. Silver had a small spike in the 70s where it jumped to $120 but that’s unlikely to happen again. I used to invest in silver but sold most of it. I still have a few coins for nostalgic reasons. Pretty much, here is the reason silver is a pretty crappy investment IMO: There is still tons of silver in the ground that can cheaply mined. The biggest mines produce 20 million oz every year. Don't expect anyone on r/investing to recommend gold or silver bullion. Don't buy gold or silver as a an etf, futures contract or index. If you can't hold it there's no reason to believe that you own it. The leverage on the comex is 100+ to 1.
